Packers CEO drops big update on what is coming next and the reaction could leave fans sharply divided
Ed Policy confirmed that the Packers will have new alternate uniforms soon, and it looks like they will be really different. It’s unclear if they keep up the style of throwback uniforms.
The Green Bay Packers had a new alternate uniform last year — the one they wore in the loss to the Carolina Panthers. But it sounds like Nike is getting another kit ready. In his monthly column at Packers.com, franchise CEO/president Ed Policy dropped a big update, revealing that the team will have a true alternate uniform.
“There is a true alternate uniform in the works,” Policy wrote. “Last year, the NFL unveiled a new rivalries uniform for teams in the AFC East and NFC West. The NFC North is on the docket this year. Stay tuned and you’ll learn more in the coming months – but I will say this truly alternate uniform will celebrate owners and emphasize our uniqueness.”
Now, the question is if the new style will be a new throwback, or just a completely new alternate kit.
Different styles
Over the past couple of years, the Packers have worn two different alternate uniforms per year. One is a throwback — those beautiful green and gold ones were replaced by the ‘1923 Classic’ in 2025. Those are navy blue jerseys with a reference to the 1920s and to the history of the franchise.
Since 2024, the Packers also have the all-whites, which could still be used even if the franchise has a new throwback kit.
Since the 1990s, Green Bay has taken advantage of its deep history to create alternate uniforms. First, there were white and navy blue ones with a big yellow stripe at the top. In the Aaron Rodgers’ era, the Packers had another navy blue kit with a yellow circle around the number, with brown helmets and pants. Then, the navy blues with a big yellow stripe returned.
In the early 2020s, the Packers wore a Classic Uniform all green with gold details inspired in the 1950s, and they were worn until 2024.
In regards to the all-whites, the Packers first had a Color Rush look with white jerseys and pants, but yellow helmets. The white helmet was implemented two years ago.
As always, this is a topic that divides fans. Some love the alternates because it mixes a cool new vibe with the tradition of the franchise. Others just prefer to keep the same traditional uniforms. Anyhow, there will be a lot of discussion coming the fans’ way soon.
