Landing Cam Coleman out of the transfer portal was the biggest win of the Texas Longhorns offseason and it may have been the best transfer portal add of any team in college football.

Coleman gives Steve Sarkisian’s offense and QB Arch Manning a true WR1 talent with the frame to back it. Coleman arrived on campus back in the winter and the last few months have already brought him a clear change.

Latest buzz around Texas’ Cam Coleman is what Longhorns fans want to hear

Coleman is undoubtedly going to be Manning’s top target in 2026 before he makes a jump to the NFL. The Auburn Tigers transfer has already made a change that’s going to help him out this fall.

“I think his body has changed over the last six months, and it’s been really impressive,” a source told CBS Sports recently. “He’s gone from a very lean AJ Green-esque body to more of a very built and ready Julio (Jones). It’s very impressive to see the weight he’s put on and still maintain the speed and the catch radius. He put together a really impressive spring.”

Coleman has 1,306 receiving yards to go along with 13 touchdowns in his college career headlined by the 708 receiving yards he had last season. Quarterback play wasn’t to the level at Auburn that Coleman will have in Austin with Manning. The one season the two have together (as long as he heads off to the NFL) has a chance to be special.

Texas has the talent around Cam Coleman to let him really open up things

It’s not like this Texas offense is going to be just Coleman, and that’s good news for his chances to explode in Sarkisian’s offense. Ryan Wingo will be a featured player once again and Emmett Mosley will be a key secondary option for Manning. Jermaine Bishop may be a year away from being a real contributor, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he got into the mix.

A one-two punch of Hollywood Smothers and Raleigh Brown for the Longhorns is only going to force defenses to keep it honest. There probably wasn’t a better situation for Coleman to walk into, and he’s clearly already doing the work to maximize this opportunity.
