National insider drops strong statement about Ohio State’s NIL plans for David Gabriel Georges amid recruiting battle with Tennessee
The recruiting battle between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Ohio State Buckeyes for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges hit a crescendo following the coveted recruit’s official visit to Rocky Top.
The Tennessee Vols made a big move this past weekend in the ongoing recruiting battle for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
Gabriel Georges’ official visit to Tennessee went so well that On3 national recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong, who has long predicted that Ohio State will land the five-star recruit, says he’s never felt “shakier” about his prediction.
Steve Wiltfong details the NIL angle of David Gabriel Georges’ recruitment
NIL will be a factor in Gabriel Georges’ final decision, but it’s not expected to be the main factor.
Still, it matters. This kid looks like a future NFL superstar — he’s going to get paid.
On Sunday, Wiltfong said “there is a ton of buzz nobody will be able to touch what Tennessee has in store from an NIL standpoint.”
Wiltfong amended his statement on Monday and suggested that Ohio State plans to be very aggressive from an NIL standpoint.
“I still get the feeling there is a lot of confidence around Ohio State since the Tennessee visit has concluded,” noted Wiltfong. “OSU will be as competitive as they’ve ever been on the NIL front for a prospect.”
No one knows exactly how Gabriel Georges will make his decision, but I wouldn’t expect this to be a “highest bidder” type of situation. Ohio State and Tennessee seem willing to go wherever they need to go from an NIL standpoint to land Gabriel Georges. He’ll get a hefty payday regardless of where he lands. I don’t think he’ll choose the biggest offer over what his heart says.
Wiltfong, by the way, still has his prediction on Ohio State, but he is clearly not nearly as confident in that pick as he was a week ago.
Gabriel Georges is currently planning to commit on July 22.
