Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams delivered a confident message heading into 2026 training camp, declaring that the Bears offense will be even more exciting under head coach Ben Johnson’s system in Year 2.

“It’s going to be really exciting, it’s going to be really fun to watch, it’s going to be more entertaining than last year. Hopefully not as much of a heart race,” Caleb Williams said on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams. “It’s going to be more entertaining throughout the whole game and what we’re going to bring to the table.”

With camp set to begin Wednesday, all eyes are on the third-year quarterback to see how far he can push this offense after another full offseason of continuity in Johnson’s scheme.

Completion percentage is the key for Caleb Williams heading into training camp

The biggest area of emphasis for Williams and Johnson’s staff heading into camp is increasing the quarterback’s completion percentage after completing just 58.1 percent of his passes last season. The Bears believe that getting the ball into the hands of their playmakers more consistently and getting them out in space will lead to a more efficient and effective offense overall.

“More often that not, it’s looking inward and starting with myself,” Williams said. “Going from there, it’s finding way through practice, through individual drills, through offseason, to get better. I’ve been working my tail off to build confidence. Working on the plays mentally and things like that in the offseason so when it gets to the season and training camp, then I’m not thinking and I’m not late to stuff. My feet and everything is all timed up and I’m delivering a catchable ball to the guys and they can go make plays.”

The coaching staff has identified Williams’ completion percentage (along with the drops by the pass catcher) as the missing piece that held the unit back last season. Far too often, drives stalled out early in games last season caused by Williams’ inaccuracy or overall issues connecting with his weapons.

Williams had multiple throwing sessions during the offseason away from practice with some of his top weapons such as Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, Luther Burden III, Jahdae Walker and others.

If improvement can be shown in that area throughout the next few weeks at camp, the Bears will dominate opponents for all four quarters this season rather than relying on the late-game heroics that defined several of their wins last year. It’ll be an important thing to watch throughout camp to see how Williams’ confidence has progressed both within the offense and connecting with his pass catchers.

Added confidence in the coaching staff from the entire team will go a long way in Year 2

It’s not just Williams and the offense having more confidence in Ben Johnson’s scheme going into Year 2. The entire team returning from the 2025-26 season has more confidence now in what to expect from the staff and what’s required out of them going into camp this week, something that carries over to all three sides of the team.

“You can feel it, you can see it. The confidence, it’s not thinking,” Williams explained. “It’s what goes on outside, it’s what goes on on the grass that you can see and you can feel. The connection, the momentum – whether it’s offense or defense or special teams – it’s all three of us combined. The connection in the locker room, all of that. We got some good things cooking and we gotta keep growing and keep going. But, fireworks and all of that are going to be lighting up here in Chicago.”

Last year’s camp was filled with a lot of uncertainty around a young team with a new coaching staff. This year, the confidence is building. Later this week, we’ll get the opportunity to see what that actually looks like on the field and how far along this entire team actually is in Year 2.
