Notre Dame football lands SoFi as official financial services partner, jersey badge included for 2026 season
Notre Dame football makes a dramatic change ahead of the 2026 CFB season. The Fighting Irish continue to evolve with the new era.
Notre Dame football announced a landmark partnership with SoFi on Tuesday, naming the San Francisco-based financial services company as the official financial services partner of Notre Dame Athletics.
The deal, which will place a SoFi badge on the Fighting Irish jerseys during the 2026 college football season, represents one of the largest financial partnerships in college athletics. Notre Dame’s agreement with SoFi is a significant move for head coach Marcus Freeman’s program as it continues to position itself among the sport’s financial heavyweights.
What the partnership means for Notre Dame
SoFi CEO Anthony Noto released a statement celebrating the deal: “The grit, the discipline, and determination of Notre Dame student athletes reflect the same ambition we see in our members every day.”
Notre Dame Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Pete Bevacqua also weighed in, stating that “SoFi shares in the commitment to developing strong, ambitious leaders who are set up for success at Notre Dame and beyond.”
The partnership carries real financial weight. According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, who first reported the deal, Notre Dame’s agreement with SoFi is worth between $18 million and $20 million annually, exceeding the Ohio State-JPMorgan Chase partnership valued at $15 million that was also announced this week.
A changing landscape
There will be Notre Dame fans who cringe at the idea of a corporate badge appearing on one of college football’s most iconic uniforms. That reaction is understandable. The Fighting Irish uniform carries a weight and tradition that few programs can match.
But the reality of college football in 2026 demands this type of investment. The sport has become increasingly transactional, and programs that refuse to adapt risk falling behind. Notre Dame securing a deal that reportedly tops Ohio State’s recent agreement sends a clear message about where the program stands financially.
From everything I have gathered, there is certainly confidence within the Notre Dame administration that this partnership strengthens the program’s ability to compete at the highest level. Whether it’s roster construction through the transfer portal, NIL resources, or facility upgrades, financial backing of this magnitude matters.
Looking ahead
One thing is very clear: Notre Dame is not content to simply keep pace with its competitors. Landing a deal that surpasses what Ohio State announced with JPMorgan Chase this same week is a statement in itself. The Irish are making aggressive moves off the field to ensure they remain a powerhouse on it.
College football continues to evolve rapidly, and the programs willing to embrace change are the ones best positioned for long-term success. Notre Dame adding a jersey badge may feel uncomfortable for traditionalists, but the financial commitment behind it gives Freeman and his staff another significant resource in an era where every advantage counts.
