The Miami Hurricanes have put together a very strong 2027 recruiting class. Mario Cristobal has built the No. 3 ranked class as per both On3 Sports/Rivals and 247 Sports.

It seemed as though all the five star recruits for the 2027 class had already made their choices, with David Gabriel Georges’ pick of Tennessee last month being the final one.

Well, not so fast.

Rivals and 247 Sports have both updated that Miami Columbus CB A’Mir Sears will reclassify from the 2028 class to 2027 and announce his decision on Friday at 5:00 pm ET.

And that could be a very good thing for Cristobal and the Hurricanes, per Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, who says the Hurricanes are trending for Sears.

Sears is the top cornerback and No. 2 overall recruit in the 2028 class per Rivals. 247 Sports has him as the top player overall for 2028. So, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out just how immense of a talent that Sears appears to be. He should transfer over to the 2027 class as a five-star player.

Cristobal has done an unbelievable job in this class landing top tier CB talent. He flipped five-star Long Beach, CA Donte Thornton from Georgia in May and pulled in four-star Dothan, AL Ai’King Hall after the latter de-committed from Oregon.

There is always room for more, and that would certainly be the case for the best player in the nation in Sears, who Wiltfong noted many in South Florida believe Sears to be “the best high school prospect to come out of the area since Jeremiah Smith.”

High praise indeed. We’ll find out on Friday if he puts an enormous cherry on top of Miami’s already terrific 2027 class.
