Commanders Training Camp Injuries: Former first-round pick misses practice and Nick Allegretti dodges a bullet
The first day of Commanders training camp saw a couple of players suffer injuries that will keep them out of practice for a little bit.
The Washington Commanders’ top goal for training camp is to limit injuries as much as possible. I mean, that’s the main priority for every team.
Unfortunately, the Commanders couldn’t get through their first training camp practice without experiencing injuries to a couple of players who could easily play a big role in 2026.
Per Dan Quinn, former first-round pick Treylon Burks, who is looking to finally put it all together, is dealing with foot soreness that will cause him to miss Day 2 of camp, at minimum. It’s a disappointing situation for a player that has never had a fully-healthy offseason. Burks made a couple of plays on Day 1, per reports, as well.
As a matter of fact, he broke his foot in camp with the Tennessee Titans last year and that’s what led him to Washington. He’s also never played a full season in the NFL.
On the flip side, Quinn gave an update on Nick Allegretti, who was seen walking off the field with trainers on Wednesday. The hopeful starting center is dealing with a calf strain and it’s nothing serious, but he won’t practice in the short-term, either.
The Commanders are looking for a lot of answers during this year’s training camp. So, the good news is the injuries to both players open the door for others to step up. Both the center and wide receiver positions really need to establish itself over the next several weeks – especially the depth guys.
At the same time though, one has to hope the injuries don’t linger. Both Burks and Allegretti need to show what they’re made of, as well, especially Burks. He’s hanging on to the final thread of his career after achieving the “bust” label in Tennessee and it’s very likely Washington is his last real chance to prove he can play in the NFL.
At this point, we’ll just have to monitor both players and hope the Commanders can get through Day 2 of training camp without experiencing anymore injuries.
