Country music singer takes bizarre jab at Tennessee that has Vols fans scratching their heads
A country music star took a weird shot at Tennessee this weekend that made absolutely no sense.
While pandering to fans during a concert in Bristow, VA, country music singer Riley Green took an odd shot at Tennessee that has Vols fans scratching their heads.
Green, who is from Alabama, has a popular song called “Hell of a way to go” that features the lyrics: “Or maybe on a fifty-yard line watching Alabama whoop up on Tennessee”.
The country singer, who says he’s actually an Auburn fan, often changes the lyrics of the song to appeal to fans in whatever city he happens to be performing in.
This past weekend in Virginia, Green changed the lyrics to “James Madison beating the s–t out of Tennessee.”
I mean, I get that you’ve gotta pander to your crowd a bit if you’re a performer, but why not include a team that’s relevant to James Madison (or why not mention Virginia or Virginia Tech). There is no rivalry between James Madison and Tennessee. JMU fans aren’t thinking about Tennessee…ever.
Green is trying a little too hard with the Tennessee thing. I mean, the fact that he’s an Auburn fan but opted to put Alabama in the song just because it flows better instantly lost him credibility with die-hard college football fans.
Vols fans just have to laugh and shake their heads at that one. Tennessee is living rent free in the Alabama fan Auburn fan’s head.
