The Miami Dolphins‘ first (unofficial) depth chart of the 2026 season was unveiled on Tuesday. With it came several expected revelations for the season ahead and who is in line to play.
But several veteran players were put on ‘notice’, either directly or indirectly. The intent may not have been to wake anyone mired in a position battle up. But it’s hard to overlook the ‘OR’ designation for several veterans on the roster. Here’s three veterans tied in an intense battle as we prep for the preseason opener.

LB Tyrel Dodson
I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know here. But Dodson is listed as “or” on the depth chart with rookie second-round linebacker Jacob Rodriguez. It’s very much neck and neck for playing time. If it ends up being a tie, one would be safe to assume the tiebreaker is the long-term conversation. Dodson is one a one-year deal. Rodriguez is a rookie on a four-year contract. Momentum feels like it is continuing to build here towards the inevitable.
OT Charlie Heck
Heck is a part of the welcoming committee for newly acquired OL Caedan Wallace. And, without Wallace so much as putting on a Miami Dolphins helmet, he’s already listed as ‘OR’ for the second-string right tackle spot with Heck. When the Dolphins watched Austin Jackson sit out a few practices earlier in camp, Heck was the first man up. And the results were…not great. So not great, as a matter of fact, that someone the team acquired for is immediately pushing to take his spot.
DT Kenneth Grant/DT Jordan Phillips
Grant and Phillips are both going to have a large role in how the Miami Dolphins operate up front. Make no mistake about it. But Phillips is a stalwart run defender. Grant has more potential as an every down player and a disruptor up front.
“Let them fight!”
These two second-year players competing for a larger snap share is good news for both players. And, by extension, good news for the Miami Dolphins defense.
