The New England Patriots secured a second win on Sunday against the Bills thanks to one free agent addition’s big day
The New England Patriots flipped the script in Week 4 thanks in large part to a big breakout in chemistry with Drake Maye and WR Romeo Doubs.
It’s hard to overstate the significance of this one. The New England Patriots, in 60 minutes of football, have seemingly flipped from ‘on the rocks’ to ‘right in the thick of it’. A road win in the AFC East against the Bills will do that for a team.
Buffalo looked poised coming into Week 4 to take command of the division. Instead, the Patriots flipped the script. And as things progress from here, some budding chemistry between QB Drake Maye and one target in the passing game is worth watching closely.
The Romeo Doubs, Drake Maye connection is a huge story to watch

The most encouraging takeaway from the day beyond Maye’s performance? That would be wide receiver Romeo Doubs. The pair was at the center of an interception early, which Maye told Doubs on the sideline was on the third-year quarterback. Thereafter? Two touchdown receptions, including a one-hander in the end zone. Chemistry between a quarterback and a new receiver doesn’t always arrive on schedule for the start of the season. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to show up on Sundays.
It certainly didn’t look like it was there at all in Week 1.
It’s there now. If Maye and Doubs keep building on what they showed in Buffalo, New England’s passing offense becomes that much more dangerous over the rest of the season. Add Brown back into the mix in a few weeks and defenses suddenly have a lot more to worry about. That’s the bet New England made this offseason. One game doesn’t settle it, but this was the best return on that investment from free agency. Keep stacking performances like these and the win in Buffalo may end up looking like a turning point rather than a one-off. The money tells you what the Patriots are expecting.
