Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Kaleb Beasley is having a heck of a season for the Louisville Cardinals.

Beasley, who spent the first two seasons of his career at Tennessee, transferred to Louisville this past January.

The former Vol had an incredible game on Friday night in Louisville’s 44-20 win over Florida State.

Beasley made a great play on a key fourth down stop early in the game — when Florida State was attempting to go up 21-0 — which effectively started the Louisville comeback.

“We were in a man concept,” said Beasley of the fourth down stop. “I just rolled down and spun down from the post. I was playing a man and I saw he (the QB) just stopped and they threw the ball. I was like there’s no way they’re going to throw the ball — I’m right here. He threw it and I got the tackle.”

Beasley, who finished with seven tackles against Florida State, also recorded his fourth interception of the season in the win (Beasley is now second in college football in interceptions, behind only California defensive back Kingston Lopa).

Beasley is a great example of why development is still important in college football. He was behind some good cornerbacks on the depth chart at Tennessee, then he changed positions to safety before leaving Knoxville, and is now finding his way at Louisville.

“My freshman year, I had two really good corners in front of me,” said Beasley before the season when asked about his time at Tennessee. “I had Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson, who’s at Texas A&M now. And Jermod plays for the Raiders. My sophomore year, we still had the same guys, and we weren’t as deep at safety. So I was big enough to play (safety). I could play man. I could play zone.

“So they ended up moving me to safety, and I feel like it was a really good thing for me. I honestly like safety better than corner. I get more vision on the quarterback. I get to come down to tackle and play in the box. And I get to cover the slot. So I like it.”

Beasley and Louisville will be back in action next Saturday on the road against Syracuse.
