There were some mixed reports earlier this season on the injury status of UCLA Bruins quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

CBS Sports reported on October 12 that the former Tennessee Vols quarterback was set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel, however, later clarified that no official timeline had been determined yet for Iamaleava’s injury.

Unfortunately for Iamaleava, the initial report was correct.

UCLA head coach Bob Chesney confirmed on Monday that the former five-star recruit will miss the rest of the 2026 season.

Chesney said the injury is “severe” and that Iamaleava will have surgery this week.

Iamaleava, who is in his second season at UCLA after spending the first two seasons of his career at Tennessee, passed for 982 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions in five games this season. He also rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown.

The hope for Iamaleava was to enter the 2027 NFL Draft after the 2026 season, but it seems likely that he returns to UCLA for another season since he almost certainly won’t be able to participate in pre-draft workouts.
