Former Tennessee Vols standout Dalton Knecht is looking for a new home in the NBA.

Knecht, who is entering his third season in the NBA, was released by the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month after spending the first two seasons of his career with the franchise.

The former Vol showed promise as a rookie, but he was basically an afterthought for the last 18 months after nearly getting traded as a rookie. Knecht’s playing time was cut in half after the failed trade, leaving him with very few opportunities with the Lakers.

As a result, Knecht essentially has to prove himself all over again, despite being a first round pick two years ago.

For now, there are three teams showing interest in Knecht according to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer: the Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Toronto Raptors.

According to Fischer, those three teams are interested in signing Knecht to a two-way deal.

Those three teams are also the only three teams who currently have a two-way spot open on their roster.

(A two-way deal is a contract that allows a player to bounce between the NBA roster and the team’s G-League affiliate.)

This basically confirms that Knecht is going to have to prove himself all over again. It doesn’t sound like any NBA team is interested in signing him to play a specific role.

Any opportunity to play will be a good opportunity for Knecht, but he’s still facing a tough road to earn a key role in the NBA thanks largely to the way his career was mishandled by the Lakers.
