The Indianapolis Colts have, believe it or not, hit yet another bump in the road this week. Days after Indianapolis dismissed general manager Chris Ballard, quarterback Anthony Richardson, one of Ballard’s biggest misses, is reported to face a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop. When it rains, it pours.

This latest development only adds another layer to both Indianapolis’ frustrating season. Not to mention a story that was already too far gone in the wrong direction.

“According to a probable cause affidavit, a Carmel Police Department officer stopped a black Dodge Charger around Springmill Boulevard and Silver Stream Drive, just north of 136th Street, on Oct. 12 after noticing the car had a license plate that didn’t match the vehicle’s registration, and that the registration was expired.

The officer wrote he immediately smelled marijuana coming from the car when he approached, and that Richardson was the sole occupant. According to the affidavit, Richardson told the officer he had smoked marijuana inside the car because he didn’t want to smoke around his children, and that there was a small amount of marijuana inside the car.”

The Colts organization has offered a statement in relation to the charges. Via Mike Chappell of FOX59: “We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

One thing that is apparent no matter how you slice it? A fresh start is in the best interests of everyone involved. But if you had hopes of an eleventh hour trade as Richardson creeps towards the end of his rookie contract in Indianapolis? This certainly isn’t going to help that cause. Interim GM Ed Dodds has his hands full over the next few weeks. An open legal issue for Richardson, with half a season left on his contract? That probably takes the long-shot possibility of a trade off the board.

And so instead, we’ll count down the days until this marriage is, mercifully, over. Hopefully without any more bumps in the road, either.
