It’s been a rough 24 hours for the Miami Hurricanes as they approach their titanic top 5 clash on Saturday night against Notre Dame. Superstar wide receiver Malachi Toney suffered an ankle injury in practice on Wednesday. He will have surgery, which will keep him out for likely at least four weeks.

The news for the Miami program got a lot brighter on Thursday, at least as far as their outlook for beyond this season.

2028 five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright from Jacksonville (Mandarin) committed to the Hurricanes over Florida and Texas. And on the graphic of his commitment at his announcement ceremony, it said “Class of 27”, so it appears Wright is reclassifying and gives the Canes arguably the top 2027 class in the nation.

2028 5-star WR Brysen Wright picks Miami over Florida and Texas

Wright is one of the top overall players regardless of position in the 2028 class, and would be as well in 2027. He ranks as the No. 3 overall player, No. 2 wide receiver, and No. 1 player in the state of Florida for 2028. His list of offers is obviously a who’s who of marquee programs, including Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, and others.

Wright is the next in a long line of standout wide receiver targets to pull the trigger on Miami. Five-star two-way athlete A’Mir Sears and Five-star WR Nick Lennear are crown jewels in Miami’s top three 2027 recruiting class. Both have the ability to make an immediate impact quickly in Coral Gables.

Now, Cristobal has another potentially generational talent on the way, and it’s someone that could undoubtedly have a massive impact for Miami.
