Nick Saban gives Miami Hurricanes the ultimate rat poison on College Gameday
The legendary Alabama coach sees the Canes taking that final step in 2026.
Nick Saban is someone who believes in the Miami Hurricanes recently. That was evident last year when the legendary Alabama coach went to bat for the Canes on TV during the Notre Dame vs. Miami fight for the last College Football Playoff spot back in December, which ultimately went to the Hurricanes.
Now, it seems as though Saban is as much bought in on the Hurricanes now as he was then, and perhaps even more so. During Saturday’s College Gameday final segment, each analyst made their national championship pick. For Saban, it was Miami vs. Texas in the title game with the Hurricanes claiming title No. 6.

Saban certainly is one you’d like to see potential championship qualities in your team, given the face he’s guided LSU to a title and Alabama to six.
Last year during the playoff debate, he invited the committee to re-watch the Miami-Notre Dame game and see how much the Hurricanes dominated the game physically. He also said he saw Miami with a chance to make a run in the playoff if they got in, and that’s just what happened.
Miami certainly looked the very early part of a contender on Friday night, torching Stanford 45-6 on the strength of a record-setting 234 receiving yards from Malachi Toney and 401 passing yards from Darian Mensah. Both players were done in the third quarter.
We’ll find out in the coming months if they can make Saban look smart, but so far so good for Mario Cristobal’s team.
