If you don’t want to feel old then you probably won’t want to hear about Notre Dame offering 2027 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. during Pot of Gold on Monday. Yes, he’s the son of the former Irish great of the same name, and no this offer has nothing to do with any sort of nepotism.

Jones is already considered to be a five-star recruit on the 247Sports composite ranking. He currently sits as the No. 9 overall player, No. 1 wide receiver, and No. 1 player in the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class. We are talking about an elite player here.

Despite just finishing up his sophomore year, Jones has demanded the attention of some prominent programs. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, LSU, Miami, Florida, Penn State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida State, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Washington, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Colorado, NC State, UCLA, Syracuse, and Purdue among others.

On an extremely deep and talented St. Thomas Aquinas' team, Jones became the top option at a very young age. In 13 games, Jones hauled in 51 receptions for 750 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged an impressive 14.7 yards per catch despite playing against some great competition.

Jones’ father played at Notre Dame from 1999-2003. He finished his career with 3,018 rushing yards and 27 total touchdowns. Jones was selected in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, and proceeded to play seven seasons in the NFL.

The younger Jones has quickly become a must-get recruit in the 2027 recruiting class, and for obvious reasons. Obviously it’s important to close on talented legacy recruits. Jones also plays at a massive program in Florida, which would be huge for the recruiting pipeline. Add in the fact that wide receiver recruiting has been underwhelming recently, this could kill three birds with one stone.
