Typically, the only weather in September that teams have to worry about when visiting EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida is the heat. For the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars game in Week 2, they'll be dealing with the heat and some wet weather to go along with it.
According to multiple weather forecasts (AccuWeather, WeatherWX, and the National Weather Service), rain showers and thunderstorms are expected at Everbank Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 17. Temperatures are expected to touch 90 degrees with an 80% chance of precipitation during the course of the game. They'll see 5-10 mph wind gusts during the game, which could impact special teams.
Another big concern is thunderstorms because those can cause game delays. There is a chance of thunderstorms, but right now it looks as if the game will kick off after the early morning thunderstorms pass and before afternoon thunderstorms set in.
The other impact this weather could have on the game is the product on the field on offense. The Chiefs were already reeling from a game filled with drops in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. When they head to Jacksonville in Week 2, they're going to have to deal with hanging onto a wet football. Thankfully, the team tries to practice in the elements every year when they head to St. Joseph, Missouri for training camp. They did get a chance to practice during the rain a bit this year, so theoretically, they should be better prepared to play in the rain.
Of course, there is still plenty of time for the forecast to change, and Jacksonville is known for having erratic weather conditions. We'll continue to monitor this story leading up to kickoff.
