Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter didn’t leave Rocky Top on the best of terms.

Carter, who was a member of the 2024 SEC All-Freshman Team after a standout true freshman season at Tennessee, was dismissed from the UT football program last November after he reportedly failed to show up for a game against New Mexico State.

The dismissal came after Carter missed several offseason activities last summer, which angered some of Tennessee’s team leaders.

Carter transferred to Colorado in January.

Colorado senior defensive back Ben Finneseth was asked this week about Carter.

And Finneseth made it clear that he loves the Chattanooga native.

“Boo’s a baller,” said Finneseth. “He’s just a misunderstood guy. After spending some time down at Coach Prime’s ranch in Texas — I taught Boo how to fish. We also rode the four wheelers together and shot at the pistol station together. So we spent a lot of time together down there, and I really got to know him. And man, Boo’s a good dude. I love him.

“He’s changed. He really has. Since he got to Colorado, the way he’s bought in, the way he’s surrounded himself with teammates — he’s been a real player’s guy. I’m really proud of Boo and the way that he’s come along and the way he’s continuing to come along. He’s a blessing to have around.”

It didn’t work out for Carter at Tennessee, but it sounds like he’s off to a good start at Colorado.

Consistency, though, will be key for Carter. After he received a second chance at Tennessee last season, he had too many games where he seemingly disappeared. He’ll need to eliminate those kinds of performances if he’s going to be a first-round pick like Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is predicting he’ll be.
