Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs signed with the Detroit Lions on Sunday, where he’s expected to serve as the primary backup to starter Jared Goff.

Dobbs, though, may want to be careful because former Vols appear to be cursed in Detroit this summer.

Earlier this month, former Vols tight end Miles Kitselman, who signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent, went down with a leg injury that’s expected to keep him out for “a while.”

On Monday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced that former Tennessee offensive lineman Cade Mays suffered a wrist injury and will be out a significant amount of time.

Campbell said Mays will return this season, but that it will be “down the road.”

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Mays fractured a small bone in his wrist that should sideline him for 8-10 weeks.

That’s two former Vols that have gone down in Lions training camp.

Not ideal.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but if Dobbs is superstitious, he may want to be extra cautious in Detroit.

Former Vols defensive lineman Tyre West is also on the Lions’ roster (West was a seventh-round pick by Detroit in the 2026 NFL Draft).
