Ohio State just pulled off a Hail Mary that may have flipped the momentum away from Tennessee in the battle for David Gabriel Georges
The Tennessee Volunteers and the Ohio State Buckeyes are in the midst of an intense recruiting battle for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
The Tennessee Vols and the Ohio State Buckeyes are locked into a recruiting battle for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
Gabriel Georges, a Quebec native who attends Baylor School in Chattanooga, is also considering the Ole Miss Rebels, but it’s the Vols and the Buckeyes who are way out in front in this battle.
Tennessee appeared to move into the lead in this battle earlier this month after knocking it out of the park during Gabriel Georges’ official visit to Rocky Top, but Ohio State may have regained the momentum on Friday by pulling off a Hail Mary.
Ohio State offers high school teammate of David Gabriel Georges
Ohio State offered unrated 2027 wide receiver/defensive back Jordan Darren-Djila on Friday.
Darren-Djila, who is also from Canada, is teammates with Gabriel Georges at Baylor School in Chattanooga.
Darren-Djila’s other offers are from programs like UT-Martin and Kennesaw State, so it’s pretty clear that Ohio State is offering him as part of their plan to land Gabriel Georges.
And it looks like the offer to Darren-Djila made an impression on Gabriel Georges based on what he posted on his Instagram story on Friday evening.
Having a couple of teammates around is something that’s important to Gabriel Georges.
The Vols already have a couple of Gabriel Georges’ former teammates on the roster, and he hung out with those players during his official visit to Tennessee.
“I think he just liked [getting] to hang out with his buddies β Jamyan Theodore, Gabe Osenda, those are guys (former teammates at Baylor School who now play for the Vols) that heβs known from Baylor,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price after Gabriel Georges’ visit to UT.
Ohio State has a former Baylor School player on the roster — tight end Maxence LeBlanc, who is also from Quebec.
LeBlanc, however, didn’t overlap with Gabriel Georges at Baylor School (Gabriel Georges played his freshman season of high school in Canada — LeBlanc was a senior at Baylor School that year).
While I’m sure LeBlanc and Gabriel Georges know each other well, they didn’t share that teammate bond at Baylor School. Ohio State is clearly looking to make sure Gabriel Georges has that in Columbus by offering Darren-Djila. It’s a Hail Mary, but it might just have a big impact on who wins this recruiting battle.
Gabriel Georges is still planning to announce his commitment on July 22.
