FOXBORO, Mass. — It was another hot day at Gillette Stadium on Thursday as the New England Patriots took the field for the second day of training camp.
Once again the focus was on the RedZone, with Mac Jones not getting off to a strong start. And it didn't end great either, with Kyle Dugger picking off Jones on his last throw of the 11-on-11 period. This was the second straight day with Dugger intercepting Jones.
However, Jones seems to have his core receiving group, with Juju Smith-Schuster, Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, and Tyquan Thornton seen working with the quarterbacks and getting numerous first-team reps.
Here’s what else I saw from Wednesday's training camp session:
– Ty Montgomery was seen early in the day working with the running back group after having spend most of yesterday as a receiver. He also had the most receptions yesterday during the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods, recording four catches.
– Yet, Montgomery seemed shaken up after colliding with Terez Hall on one rep during the 7s. He was slow to get up and was limping afterwards, but remained on the field.
– DeVante Parker had an impressive catch during 11s, beating Christian Gonzalez for a 20-yard touchdown from Mac Jones.
– Matt Sokol was targeted a few times on Thursday while Bailey Zappe was at quarterback. While it is fairly certain that Mike Gesicki and Hunter Henry have a roster spot already, Sokol could be looked at as the third-string.
– Juju Smith-Schuster had four targets during drills, providing that he is competing to be Mac's top receiver.
– Another strong showing for the defense, with multiple pass breakups
