Mac Jones, Patriots training camp day 4

FOXBORO, Mass. — The crowds were packed with fans and they were able to watch as the offense had arguably their strongest day yet.

Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe shined, with the Patriots finally going outside of the red zone for some of the 11-on-11 drills. This gave the offense more space.

Zappe had some highlight throws, connecting with Jalen Hurd and Tre Nixon in the end zone. However, he wasn't able to end it with a bang, instead being picked off by Jalen Mills.

Here’s what else I saw from Sunday's training camp session:

-Will the Patriots be in Pads tomorrow? Bill Belichick says "probably."

– Zappe was heavily targeting Tyquan Thornton, who had some impressive catches in the end zone, along with finding DeMario Douglas a few times.

– Mills interception today came after Matt Sokol beat him on a similar play during camp for a touchdown and he has been studying film to ensure that it doesn't happen again. The result: an interception for the defensive back.

-Christian Gonzalez narrowly had an interception on a pass from Mac Jones intended for JuJu Smith-Schuster. However, Gonzalez had to settle for the pass breakup instead.

– Ed Lee was a favorite target for Trace McSorley on Sunday, catching all six of his targets. While he certainly faces an uphill battle for a roster spot, Lee is having a strong showing during training camp.

-Chad Ryland went 5-for-6 on field goal attempts. The rookie kicker is competing against veteran Nick Folk for the roster spot.

– Jones and Smith-Schuster could be a fun duo to watch this season, with the two seen talking and smiling to each other often during the sessions.

– In between drills, Kendrick Bourne and Jones were just joking around, with Bourne and Jones swapping places. Bourne threw the pass to Jones, who hauled it in for a one-handed catch. (Philly Special coming up this season?)
