Bears have brief injury scare with two players they can’t afford to lose early in Thursday’s joint practice with the Titans
Chicago Bears had both starting cornerbacks go down with injuries during Thursday’s joint practice with the Tennessee Titans.
Joint practice is underway between the Chicago Bears and the Tennessee Titans and we have boots on the ground from A to Z Sports viewing today’s practice. And there’s already a concerning situation brewing for Chicago’s defense.
Both of the Bears’ starting cornerbacks, Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson, left practice early with apparent injuries, adding even more uncertainty to Chicago’s secondary looking ahead to Week 1.
Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson injured during joint practice, here’s what we know
Johnson was the first to leave practice early during 11-on-11 drills. Johnson injured his right arm on a run play and was being evaluated on the sideline, but remained out there on the field, although without his helmet or pads. However, he’s still out there chirping the Titans from the sidelines.
As for Stevenson, he was injured during a collision with Titans wide receiver Carnell Tate. After the play, Stevenson was favoring his right leg and briefly left practice with head trainer Andre Tucker. Stevenson eventually came back out and was back on the field with the rest of the starters on defense.

Chicago Bears can’t afford more injuries in the secondary
Chicago’s secondary has been decimated by injuries all throughout training camp. Stevenson has been in and out of action and just recently returned to practice earlier this week. The Bears are already without starting safety Coby Bryant, who’s expected to miss four-six months with a knee injury, and still don’t have any update on Kyler Gordon, who very well could open the season on the PUP.
The thought of losing Stevenson or Johnson for extended time would be devastating for this unit and put a lot more strain on the depth, which was already a major concern on the outside with rookie Malik Muhammad manning the nickel position.
Other outside options for the Bears include Williams Wright, Beanie Bishop, Dontae Manning, Terell Smith, and Deantre Prince. Not the best options in terms of depth.
Thankfully, nothing seems to be serious from what we know right now, especially with Stevenson back on the field.
