NFL insider reveals the Cleveland Browns could throw a curveball during the 2026 NFL Draft next week
We are just over a week away from the 2026 NFL Draft where the Cleveland Browns are scheduled to make nine picks. The latest update around the Browns could bring a surprise with their first pick.
We’re 10 days away from the 2026 NFL Draft and the Cleveland Browns are finalizing their board for the three-day event if they haven’t already. Ahead of the draft, it’s easy to see the Browns going several different ways since they hold two first-round picks.
Overall, Cleveland holds three of the first 39 picks with its biggest needs being wide receiver and offensive tackle. Picking at No. 6 in the first round, the Browns nailing their first selection is key to bringing another good draft to Northeast Ohio.
Draft day trade is on the table for the Cleveland Browns
Browns GM Andrew Berry has never been shy about making trades, including during the NFL draft. Just last year, the Browns made a draft day trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to move out of the No. 2 pick to add a 2026 first-rounder.
Now, it’s possible the Browns could be moving again during the upcoming draft. It may not be them moving backwards this time, though.
“Could they flip the script and could Cleveland be the team to make the big bold move up? I would not put anything past them just depending on where they see the breaks in the board, where they should be more aggressive,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said.
Moving up would cost the Browns, the exact amount would depend on how far they move up. If an offensive tackle or wide receiver comes off the board before the No. 6 pick the Browns want, they may feel inclined not to miss on a second player they’d want.
Cleveland needs to add talent across the board as much as they can this draft, a year after the 2025 draft class that’s already looking like a good haul. If the Browns up for a player, it would have to be a sure hit, and would have to be a lock to be a future Pro Bowler in my opinion.

Should the Browns trade up from No. 6 in the draft?
I’ve had this stance for a few weeks and I’m sticking to it: If Carnell Tate is available at No. 6, the Browns need to take him without second thought. Cleveland didn’t improve at wide receiver in free agency, and they have next to nothing beyond Jerry Jeudy at the position. Adding Tate would give the Browns a player with the skillset to be a true WR1.
If Tate goes off the board before the Browns pick, I feel like a trade back is more likely than a move up. The Browns could add more draft picks while still taking a solid offensive lineman or another wideout like Makai Lemon a few picks later.
Cleveland’s biggest need is at quarterback but they’re unlikely to find a franchise guy this draft. If the Browns could trade up for Fernando Mendoza, I’d get behind it. It’s not and the Browns are should stay put and select the Ohio State wideout, or move back.
