Dallas Cowboys put to rest ludicrous storyline with last-minute injury update ahead of Sunday Night Football vs. Packers
The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers announce their inactive players minutes ahead of their clash at Lambeau Field.
Earlier this week, an internet theory emerged on social media suggesting Dallas Cowboys cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was sneakily manufacturing a hold-in when he reappered on the injury report with an ankle injury.
Fortunately, the absurd idea was shortlived. Porter Jr. is active for tonight’s matchup versus the Green Bay Packers. The news puts to rest the narrative, which reached the point of Cowboys owner Stephen Jones being asked about it on 105.3 The Fan, that he’s in any way trying to swindle the Cowboys out of an accrued season without actually playing.
The flawed theory emerged after Porter Jr. was unexpectedly ruled out with an illness prior to Week 5’s Thursday Night Football. Unfounded accusations aside, Porter Jr. being on the field is a game changer.
Though the Cowboys defense still has plenty of holes on the backend even with Porter Jr. back, the coaching staff views him as a “boundary eraser.” Against the Packers, he will likely be asked to play a lot of one-on-one matchups.
Let’s dive into the rest of the inactives.
Cowboys inactives

- CB Cobie Durant
- S Alijah Clark

PRACTICE SQUAD ELEVATION: DB Derion Kendrick, DB Juanyeh Thomas
Other notes on Cowboys inactives
- Reddy Steward, who got elevated to start at nickel from the practice squad three consecutive times, did not get promoted to the 53-man roster. Instead, it’s Derion Kendrick getting the shot this time. We’ll see if he plays at nickel or if the Cowboys opt for Caleb Downs while playing Markquese Bell at safety.
- The Cowboys are once again without CB Cobie Durant and LB DeMarvion Overshown. The latter was listed as questionable on Friday but did not make the trip to Green Bay.
- Third-round rookie L.T. Overton is active despite missing Friday’s practice with a foot injury. Despite a 27% snap count, Overton has flashed as a run defender and pass rusher alike.
