Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made a statement about his alma mater that may not sit well with the fan base
The Dallas Cowboys fan base wants Jerry Jones to be as passionate about their team as he is about the Razorbacks.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones delivered a quote that should raise some eyebrows among Cowboys fans.
Jones, speaking with new Arkansas Razorbacks coach Ryan Silverfield during a speaking engagement at The Star in Frisco, revealed where his heart truly lies in terms of football allegiance. Silverfield shared the exchange publicly, and Jones’ quote is worth paying attention to.
“I love the Dallas Cowboys, but man, I love and dream about the Razorbacks having success in football,” Jones told Silverfield.
Jones’ deep ties to Arkansas football
Jones played for the 1964 National Championship team at Arkansas, and that connection has never faded. He built one of the most valuable sports franchises on the planet with the Cowboys, winning multiple Super Bowls along the way. But his roots in Fayetteville clearly still pull at him.
The Razorbacks haven’t exactly given Jones much to dream about lately. Arkansas moved on from former coach Sam Pittman because the program couldn’t find consistent success in the SEC. Silverfield now carries the responsibility of turning that around, and having a billionaire NFL owner openly expressing his love for the program certainly doesn’t hurt from an optics standpoint.
Could Jones put his money where his mouth is?
If Jones truly loves and dreams about Arkansas football thriving, the natural question becomes whether he’s willing to invest in that success. College football operates in a completely different financial landscape now with NIL. A figure like Jones could make a massive impact on an SEC program’s ability to recruit and retain talent. Whether he takes that step remains to be seen, but the door feels wide open based on his own words.
Cowboys fans, meanwhile, might not love hearing their owner express that kind of passion for another football program. Dallas has its own issues to address, and the optics of Jones gushing about the Razorbacks while the Cowboys continue searching for sustained playoff success could rub the fanbase the wrong way. That said, there’s nothing wrong with a man loving where he came from. How you interpret the quote probably depends on which jersey you wear on Saturdays versus Sundays.
