The Denver Broncos got booed off their own field at halftime on Sunday Night Football. The first half against the Los Angeles Rams was that bad, as Denver fell behind 16 -0 heading into the half. Then Denver flipped the script, scoring 30 points in the second half to complete a comeback victory over Los Angeles. Here are the winners and losers from the Broncos’ Sunday night win.

Winners

WR Pat Bryant

If you just look at the box score, you’ll see a couple of catches for 44 yards. But it was all the little things with Pat Bryant that made him a winner on Sunday night. He hauled in a touchdown catch; he had a massive 39-yard reception late in the game that helped Denver get into the red zone, and Bryant had a fumble recovery and a 2-point conversion. He was the most reliable weapon on the perimeter for the Broncos, and he earned his spot on the winners list.

DL Zach Allen

Zach Allen had a big sack amid the Denver Broncos’ comeback to close out the third quarter. He became much more of a presence in the second half, as the Rams simply could not block at the same level of effectiveness they showed in the first two quarters. Los Angeles’ pass protection was not up to snuff, and that was in large part due to Allen and the pressure and sacks he generated after halftime.

S Talanoa Hufanga

The biggest winner of the night was Talanoa Hufanga, and it wasn’t particularly close. He had a sack, completely blowing up quarterback Matthew Stafford off his blind side. Then he grabbed a pick-6 off Stafford, reading his eyes, driving on the football, and finishing in the end zone. He capped the night with a game-sealing interception, again off Stafford.

I don’t want to say Hufanga single-handedly won the Broncos the game, but he was by far the biggest contributor on Sunday night.

QB Bo Nix

I know Bo Nix had an up-and-down game. That first half, it looked like he forgot to play quarterback. He was putting the ball in harm’s way, throwing it up, making bad decisions, and was about to get Davis Webb pulled from playcalling duties. But as we’ve seen over the course of his career at this point, the second half comes around, and he flips the switch. He had three total touchdowns in the second half (two passing, one rushing) and locked in when it mattered most.

I know he had an interception on a tipped pass. I know he had some more tipped balls at the end of the game. But something happens in the second half and certainly in the fourth quarter of games where Bo Nix doesn’t flinch. He doesn’t worry, he doesn’t panic. He goes to work. He created three touchdowns that won the Denver Broncos the game. Because of that, I have to name him a winner.

Loser

CB Riley Moss

The only loser from Sunday night is Riley Moss. Multiple lapses in coverage, multiple lapses in judgment, eyes getting caught in the backfield. He gave the Rams the chance to win the game on that touchdown to Mumpfield, where he was peeking at Stafford instead of keeping himself square. He had a big-time letup earlier in the game as well.

Moss has to be more disciplined down in and down out. Patrick Surtain is going to do his job. We just talked about what Hufanga can do. You know what that defense is capable of in the middle with Singleton and pass rushers like Nik Bonitto and Jonathan Cooper if and when he returns from the CEL. Moss has to be more stable if the Broncos are going to get back to the AFC Championship and beyond.

The bottom line is this: it was an ugly first half, but a great night overall for the Denver Broncos.
