Lions add former Patriots guard after Christian Mahogany injury
Not the move you were hoping for, but it’s a move
The Detroit Lions are dealing with some injuries on the offensive line, and while everyone wanted a trade for someone like Kevin Zeitler or Joel Bitonio at the NFL trade deadline, that’s just not a realistic thing that happens in the NFL. Teams don’t trade good offensive linemen.
The Lions did add a guard on Tuesday, though.
Lions sign rookie guard Jack Conley to practice squad
Again, not the guy you wanted, but the Lions must feel pretty good about what they have depth-wise right now. Conley, who, interestingly enough, was a teammate of Mahogany’s at Boston College, went undrafted this year before being picked up by the Patriots. He had a good summer, starting in all three preseason games and allowing just one pressure.
At BC, Conley was very good at right guard. He allowed just 14 pressures and one sack in his final season. In addition to playing guard, Conley has also played left and right tackle. He’s much better on the inside.
Make no mistake, this is a project. Let’s see what the Lions can do with him.
