Packers have 5 players eligible to return from injury lists after 4 games, and one could fill a sudden need at receiver

Micah Parsons headlines the group, and Green Bay has four other players on IR or PUP who already cleared the mandatory four-game absence.

Micah Parsons is the big name to watch, but the Green Bay Packers have several other players already eligible to return from their injury lists. Every player the Packers placed on injured reserve ahead of the regular season, or who started the year on the physically unable to perform list, has now missed four games. Under NFL rules, all of them can return to the active roster.

That doesn’t mean it will happen this week against the Chicago Bears. Still, Green Bay could open the practice window for some of these players and eventually activate them from IR or PUP to the 53-man roster. Some could be ready for Week 5, and others could return over the next few games.

The Packers now have five players in position to return. Parsons is one of them and the main one, but Green Bay won’t open his practice window this week, because he’s still recovering from his ACL injury. So, let’s discuss the other four.

Two players still on PUP

The Packers have two other players on the physically unable to perform list, and Green Bay could have opened their practice windows as early as Week 3. That hasn’t happened yet, which is an indication that neither player is ready, although both could return at some point this season.

The first one is tight end Luke Musgrave, who is dealing with a neck injury he suffered during the offseason program. He missed all of training camp. There isn’t a clear timeline for his return, but the coaching staff and front office have indicated the Packers expect Musgrave back at some point during the season. That’s particularly meaningful to Musgrave himself, because 2026 is the final year of his rookie deal.

The other PUP case is defensive tackle Jordon Riley, who tore his Achilles late last year. He’s still recovering, and the Packers haven’t opened his practice window yet.

Riley’s situation is likely more impactful than it would be a month ago. Green Bay has dealt with several injuries at defensive tackle, and Warren Brinson went on IR this week. Anthony Campbell has also missed time recently. Getting Riley back in the following weeks would give the Packers some needed depth on the interior.

Two players on injured reserve

The other two players are on injured reserve, which means they couldn’t return to practice until now. This is the first week they can open their 21-day practice window and even potentially play.

The first one is edge defender Collin Oliver, who suffered a calf injury during training camp. The former fifth-round pick has dealt with multiple injuries since entering the NFL. He missed almost his entire rookie season, playing only in Week 18 in a meaningless game against the Minnesota Vikings. Because of the calf injury, Oliver hasn’t played yet this season either, but he could eventually become a part of the edge rotation.

Savion Williams could fill a hole at receiver

The other piece is particularly important: wide receiver Savion Williams, who suffered a high ankle sprain. The expectation is that he’ll be back in the near future, potentially over the next few games.

The Packers lost Jayden Reed for the season with a neck injury, and that opened a significant role in the offense. Williams, a third-round pick last year, has the potential to become the starting slot receiver, or at least a part of the rotation.

Green Bay has established Christian Watson and Matthew Golden as its top two receivers. But beyond that, the Packers only have Bo Melton, Skyy Moore, and rookie J. Michael Sturdivant on the 53-man roster. That’s a thin group for an offense that likes to rotate receivers.

Williams’ ability to be a multiple offensive piece is what makes him valuable right now. Of the four eligible players beyond Parsons, he’s the one whose return would most directly address a current hole on the roster.
