NFL delivers surprising update that sets record straight on Micah Parsons and how quickly he’s made a major impact for the Packers
Edge defender Micah Parsons leads the first installment of Pro Bowl voting among defensive players.
Let’s not go beyond a reasonable line to say that Micah Parsons has been the best defensive player in football this year. After all, Myles Garrett has done insane things — and he will most likely win the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
But that doesn’t mean Parsons can’t receive his flowers as well. He’s already had 12.5 sacks this season, becoming the first player ever to have 12+ sacks in each of his first five NFL seasons. More than that, he has had a real impact on several wins for the Green Bay Packers in 2025 — including last week over the Detroit Lions. Packers and football fans in general are recognizing this impact.
Micah Parsons is the top defensive player in Pro Bowl votes
On Monday, the NFL released the installment of Pro Bowl fan voting. Not only is Micah Parsons the first defensive end, he’s the most-voted defensive player overall — yes, ahead of Myles Garrett. He’s just behind New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
This doesn’t ensure these players will be Pro Bowlers, because the selection is a consensus vote from three groups — players, coaches, and fans. Each group’s vote counts as one-third of the total. While it’s pretty obvious that Micah Parsons will be a Pro Bowler, it’s cool to see how motivated Packers fans are to make it a reality.
In terms of money, Parsons does have some Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections tied to incentives in his contract, but they don’t start until 2027. So Parsons’ selection wouldn’t generate any cap implications for the Packers.
Micah Parsons has been a Pro Bowler in each of his four NFL seasons for the Dallas Cowboys — and it seems clear that he will keep this trend in Green Bay. He’s also been the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, a First-Team All-Pro twice and a Second-Team All-Pro once.
Packers fans are excited
While Micah Parsons is the big name to watch here, 13 other Packers players made the top 10 at their respective positions — which includes quarterback Jordan Love at eighth, as he tries to be selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
The two Packers pieces who are leading their positions are long snapper Matthew Orzech and Evan Williams, who’s leading it at special teamer.
