Kansas City Chiefs have already reached out to Tyreek Hill’s agent, per report, and a reunion feels like only a matter of time
The Kansas City Chiefs lost two wide receivers to injuries in their Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Plus, several Chiefs stars weighed in on the former All-Pro’s potential return.
The Kansas City Chiefs and former WR Tyreek Hill have been connected throughout the offseason. That has been the case since the Miami Dolphins released Hill after his season-ending knee injury in 2025. The connection has carried into the 2026 NFL season while Hill works to recover from the knee injury and eventually join a team.
After the Chiefs’ Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, new information has emerged about a potential reunion. Kansas City lost wide receiver Tyquan Thornton to a dislocated ankle during the game. Wide receiver Rashee Rice also exited with a tweaked hamstring, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
The Chiefs have reached out to Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, per report
The Athletic’s Michael Silver reported that several high-ranking organizational sources confirmed Sunday night that the Chiefs are very interested in signing Hill. According to Silver, Kansas City had already reached out to Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, before Sunday’s game against the Raiders. After injuries to Thornton and Rice, the Chiefs reached out to express their interest.
The history here runs deep. Kansas City selected Hill in Day 3 of the 2016 NFL Draft. He started 73 regular-season games for the Chiefs and recorded 479 receptions for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns during his six-year tenure with the team. Kansas City traded Hill to Miami during the 2022 NFL offseason. He spent four years with the Dolphins before they ultimately released him. Hill suffered a significant knee injury during the 2025 NFL season, a dislocation with multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL.
Chiefs players want Tyreek Hill back in Kansas City
Silver also spoke to several prominent Chiefs players after the Week 4 win over the Raiders. He asked whether they’d be interested in seeing Hill return, and the responses were overwhelmingly positive.
“That’s out of my hands, but I know I’d love to have the cheetah (Tyreek Hill) back in the building,” Chiefs TE Travis Kelce said. “He’s a brother. He’s one of those people who, when he sets his mind to something, he usually delivers. You saw that with Miami when all the haters were saying he couldn’t play and he went and had his best here. I’d be excited by what he could do in Kansas City.”
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes kept his answer short and sweet.
“I have no idea, but it’d be pretty cool,” Mahomes said.
CB L’Jarius Sneed and DT Chris Jones shared the same sentiment.
“Man, I hope so,” Sneed said.
“I hope we do,” Jones said.
It’s a good sign when the team’s biggest stars are this openly supportive. The locker room clearly wouldn’t need any convincing. But would the front office actually make the move given his knee injury?
What comes next for Hill and the Chiefs?
The 32-year-old Hill is known for his speed and quickness. The big question is whether he can regain that after such a substantial knee injury.
His résumé speaks for itself. Hill won a Super Bowl with Kansas City in Super Bowl LIV. He’s a five-time First Team All-Pro and an eight-time Pro Bowler. He led the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2023, and he was named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.
A reunion between Hill and Kansas City feels like only a matter of time. Frankly, it has felt that way for a while. At the very least, they’d have a real conversation. The real question is when Hill will be ready to return to the field.
The Chiefs have their bye in Week 5. They could bring Hill back as early as Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers, assuming he is ready to return from his knee injury. Kansas City could also choose to bring him back before he’s fully ready. In that scenario, the team could ramp him up on the practice squad while he gets back into football shape and adjusts to the Chiefs’ playbook after several years away.
Either way, the Chiefs’ wide receiver room needs reinforcements, and the most familiar option of all appears to be on the table.
