Rashee Rice Injury: Latest update on Kansas City Chiefs receiver after Week 4 non-contact injury vs. Las Vegas Raiders
The Kansas City Chiefs could be without WR Rashee Rice for the remainder of the Week 4 game vs. the Las Vegas Raiders. The team says he has a hamstring injury.
Update: According to CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, Rice is in the locker room receiving further evaluation in the second half. She says the team has downgraded his status to doubtful.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 4 game against the Las Vegas Raiders is off to an interesting start.
After a wide-open play where he caught the ball and turned upfield, Chiefs fourth-year WR Rashee Rice pulled up lame after a five-yard gain. It was a non-contact injury, and you could see his leg sort of buckle on the play.
He immediately limped to the Chiefs’ sideline, and the training staff attended to him. They got him onto the training table and examined his leg. Rice did not return to the game for the team’s 10-play, 69-yard scoring drive. He was spotted on the sideline with his helmet on, next to Chiefs athletic trainer Donald Glover, just before Tyquan Thornton’s two-yard touchdown reception.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice official injury status
The Chiefs have listed WR Rashee Rice as questionable to return with a hamstring injury, per KC Star columnist Sam McDowell. The good news is that he didn’t have to go to the locker room, at least initially. That gives him a real chance to return, but Kansas City might want to err on the side of caution. Giving players like Jalen Royals and Cyrus Allen extra snaps in this one might turn into a bit of an advantage.
Royals filled in for Rice after he left the game. Mahomes targeted him once on the team’s scoring drive but couldn’t haul in the reception. He did a nice job on what was a designed pick on Thornton’s touchdown reception.
Keep in mind, the Chiefs have only Xavier Worthy, Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals, Cyrus Allen, and Nikko Remigio active at wide receiver. They could rely more on their tight ends if Rice has to sit out the rest of the game.
