The Kansas City Chiefs had many past players in for the annual “Legends” game in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season. They returned to Arrowhead Stadium to celebrate LB Derrick Johnson’s induction into the franchise Hall of Fame. That group included former players like Tamba Hali, Jamaal Charles, and Dwayne Bowe.

One of those players lucked out and received a gift from No. 87 after the win.

Travis Kelce honors Dwayne Bowe with heartfelt jersey tribute at Arrowhead

After Week 2’s game vs. the Colts, apparently Chiefs TE Travis Kelce gifted Bowe a jersey. Bowe played with Kelce for two seasons in Kansas City in 2013 and 2014. He was released in March of 2015 and signed a two-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. In 2014, Kelce burst onto the scene, surpassing Bowe as the team’s leading receiver.

Bowe received the jersey with Kelce’s signature and a custom birthday inscription on September 21. He shared a picture of it on social media.

“Gr8 B Day @tkelce,” Bowe wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “These words mean more than you know. I’ve tried to be the best teammate of our generation.”

The inscription included the following:

“D. Bowe! My brother forever! You showed me how to be a pro! One of the realest on and off the field!”

Bowe joined the Chiefs in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft by way of LSU. He signed a one-day contract to retire with the team back in 2019. Bowe played in Kansas City for eight seasons, recording 7,155 yards and 44 touchdowns on 532 receptions. That’s still the fourth-most receiving yards in franchise history, behind Kelce, Tony Gonzalez, and Otis Taylor.

Once upon a time, Bowe was the veteran in the room teaching Kelce how to be a professional. Now Kelce is doing the same for the next generation in Kansas City. Even after he broke the NFL’s all-time record for yards after catch, he credited his teammates for his on-field success.

“I saw Cover 4,” Kelce said. “The flat defender was a little inside of me. I knew Pat (Mahomes) was going to give me a chance. So, just get the ball north and find a way to get in the end zone. Some guys were blocking downfield for me. I think it was X (Xavier Worthy) that got a body on a body and got me in the end zone. And that’s how you get yards after catch right there, good teammates.”

It might seem like a little thing, but that selfless mentality goes a long way during the course of a 17-game NFL season. It doesn’t matter if you’re a team battling adversity or one coming off a three-game winning streak.
