World Cup player made a powerful statement with just two words when describing what he knew about Kansas City
The Kansas City Chiefs are known for one thing around the world, and even the players in the World Cup know that.
Kansas City is one of the few host cities for the World Cup, which is maybe the world’s biggest sports spectacle ever. And this time, there are even more eyes everywhere. Yes, Team USA is actually good, but also, this could be Lionel Messi’s last World Cup.
However, none of that matters in this case. The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t currently practicing, as they’re out for a bit before training camp starts up. But teams are using their stadiums and fields to play these qualifying and group-stage games. A few days ago, we saw Messi score a hat trick at Arrowhead. This week, Livano Comenencia and Curaçao are set to play Ecuador. Comenencia is a right back on the team. He was recently asked if he knew anything about Kansas City, and he had the best answer possible.
“Super Bowls,” Comenencia told reporters during the press conference.
And, he couldn’t have been more right. Curaçao made history by qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — their first-ever appearance. They are the smallest nation ever to reach the tournament by both population (around 150,000–160,000) and land area. They lost their first game to Germany, 7-1.
Chiefs have played a ton of international games over the years
The Kansas City Chiefs have won three Super Bowls and been to five in the last decade. So, yes, technically, Comenencia is correct. The City is known for the Chiefs, who have won Super Bowls and are the lone dynasty of this era. With that, the brand’s notoriety and growth were enough to establish it internationally. They have played many games overseas in several countries—more than any other team.
So, while they haven’t played a game in Curaçao, they have played in other countries, enough for these players to know who the Chiefs are. And let’s face it, everyone knows who Patrick Mahomes is. He’s the face of American football. You could argue that even more people know who Travis Kelce is now, since his fiancée is the biggest pop star ever, Taylor Swift. But those guys’ names are as big as they are because of what?
Super Bowls.
