The Miami Dolphins‘ roster churn is in full effect. Attrition is hitting Miami’s roster, just as it is for every other team across the league.

But the latest development is a tough blow for one of Miami’s most buzzy UDFA signings from back in the spring. EDGE defender Mason Reiger was tabbed by some as a sleeper to make the roster. But he’s been waived with an injury designation as of this morning — here’s what you need to know .

The Miami Dolphins have waived EDGE defender Mason Reiger with an injury designation

This, obviously, is a terrible turn of events for Reiger. With his designation as a waived player with an injury designation, the rest of the NFL will have a chance to nab Reiger’s services tomorrow when the waiver wire window closes (24 hours). Should Reiger not be claimed by another team? The Miami Dolphins would retain his rights, and Reiger would be placed on injured reserve for the 2026 season.

Injuries have been a part of the puzzle for Reiger going back to his college days. There’s also a good chance they were of the reason why he ultimately went undrafted in April. Reiger was an All-Star circuit standout who fell through the cracks in the draft.

Reiger redshirted his 2024 season at Louisville as a result of a knee injury. He needed a surgery that required a bone graft in his knee to recover. His current ailment is undisclosed. But the Dolphins are going to be pressing on without him this season one way or another. Ideally, given that Reiger got a signing bonus in Miami, they’ll at least carry him under contract throughout the season on injured reserve. If that’s his fate, hopefully Reiger can make the best of a bad situation and be ready to roll in 2027.
