Seats on the Miami Dolphins’ 2026 practice squad are filling up fast—but there’s an important detail to know about the remaining spots
The Miami Dolphins’ 53-man roster is set, the first waivers have been processed, and now the practice squad is filling up.
The work continues for the Miami Dolphins. Miami cut the roster down, then filed a whopping seven claims off the waiver wire. Shortly thereafter, several of their recent cuts have been locked into practice squad spots. There’s about half of the openings still available.
But these seats are filling up fast. Here’s where things currently stand for the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad as chaos across the NFL continues to unfold.

The Dolphins announced an early batch of practice squad signings. It’s worth remembering: these roster spots are generally week to week and they do not offer guaranteed salary. It’s safe to expect some regular turnover with this portion of the roster. But early seats claimed should be considered a nod of respect to their outlook in the eyes of the coaching staff and front office.

The collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA allows for six of the 16 total players on a team’s practice squad to be classified as “veteran” players. Those are players with 3+ seasons of accrued seasons. WR Jalen Reagor counts as one such player.
The Dolphins have ample flexibility with the rest of their open spots. If they wanted to add recently released players like Clelin Ferrell? They easily could. But the team’s scouring of the rest of the NFL landscape could offer some more enticing opportunities, so nothing is assumed. But as of right now, Miami has 7 openings and just released 8 players off of their 53-man roster to accommodate today’s moves. I’d suspect most of those eight releases will land on the practice squad tomorrow.
