The Miami Dolphins just picked up a free fifth-round draft pick as a part of their early roster reinforcements
The Miami Dolphins have tacked on a whopping seven players from the NFL’s waiver wire, including a talented 2026 fifth-round rookie.
Jon-Eric Sullivan told us he’d be tapping into the waiver wire for the Miami Dolphins roster. But this? This is a lot. Miami has stocked up with a whopping seven waiver wire claims, plus a free agent signing today. Here’s the full rundown, which includes a pseudo-free fifth-round draft choice from the 2026 NFL Draft.
Miami Dolphins’ early waiver claim additions headlined by 2026 fifth-round rookie TE Justin Joly

The Dolphins’ full rundown of new talent includes seven total waiver claims, plus one free agent signing. If you want to know a little bit more about how the franchise feels about the bottom portion of their roster, consider 15% of the team’s 53-man roster was just replaced. On the spot. It’s a huge shift. Here’s the full rundown of Miami’s new additions:
- TE Justin Joly (Denver)
- SAF Julius Wood (Dallas)
- CB Reese Taylor (Denver)
- OT Chukwuebuka Godrick (KC)
- QB Brady Cook (NYJ)
- OT Jarrett Kingston (Houston)
- CB Marcellas Dial Jr. (NE)
- DL Malik Herring* (Free agent, not a waiver claim)
The corresponding moves from Miami have been announced by the team as well. Miami released EDGE Clelin Ferrell & CB AJ Green, while waiving CB Ethan Bonner, OT Marques Cox, WR AJ Henning, EDGE Max Llewellyn, and OL Josh Priebe. The team waived/injured TE Ben Sims as well.
The total transactions of the day mark the end of a series of storylines on Miami’s roster. Bonner was a long-time pet project of the last regime. Llewellyn was a 7th round draft choice this April by the new regime. And Ferrell was a training camp addition that ultimately got the boot after missing most of camp with injury.
The biggest transaction is that of Joly, who was a fifth-round draft choice by the Denver Broncos this spring before failing to make a loaded roster in Denver. He is, by extension, a bonus extra player for Miami’s rookie class. You’d love to pick up players that didn’t make a 53-man roster elsewhere, but that’s not the reality that Miami lives in now. As is, the Dolphins retroactively pick up a free fifth-round draft choice with this waiver claim and Miami will once again shuffle the deck before re-assessing the landscape again tomorrow.
