The New England Patriots’ offense continues to take steps forward. Holding onto the ball has become paramount, and its rushing attack has done that effectively in Week 4. The biggest storyline for the unit is the efficiency of quarterback Drake Maye, though.

After an early touchdown for the QB, he pulled out a unique celebration that will tug at the heartstrings of his opponent’s fans this weekend.

Drake Maye’s Superman celebration after touchdown

After a touchdown to extend New England’s lead in the second quarter, Maye reminded the Panthers and their fans of one of their former players and favorites. Maye unveiled the Superman celebration that Cam Newton became known for during his playing career.

It is a home game for the Patriots, so the reaction was nearly solely positive from the crowd, but you know that frustrated Panthers fans were witnessing the celebration, too. This was not a sign of disrespect from the young quarterback, though.

Maye grew up a Panthers fan and loved rooting for Newton. So, instead, this was more of a sign of respect and honor from Maye, who played well against a struggling Carolina defense in Week 4. The Patriots put the finishing touches on a victory at home to improve to 2-2 after the first month of play.

The Patriots will face the Buffalo Bills next week, a tall task to get above .500 after five matchups.
