Drake Maye isn't having any of it.
Following the New England Patriots' loss to the Buffalo Bills, he sent a firm message regarding the rumors surrounding head coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt's job security.
“A bunch of conversations about our coaching staff and stuff like that. I think it’s some BS, to be quite honest,” Maye told reporters. “Coach Mayo, we’ve got his back. He’s coaching us hard. He wants to win. We all want to win. We’re all frustrated. AVP has been, I feel like, calling it great these past (few) weeks. We’re just plays away. It’s me turning the ball over. I think it’s a testament to these guys to keep fighting, keep fighting.
“Shoot, we’re not going to make the playoffs. We’re out of the race and these guys are coming in, frustrated when we don’t score and they’ve got energy at practice. They’ve got energy coming to the game. We want to win. There’s guys not even playing that are yelling on the sidelines and wanting to win. So I think we’re building something good, building something that feels right here. And I’m proud to be a Patriot.”
It's his final sentence that said it all.
Despite all he's gone through this season, he takes pride in wearing the Patriots logo each and every day. And it's clear that he has a lot of respect for the coaches who have helped him every step of the way since he was drafted.
And he's not the only one who feels so strongly about the coaching staff.
“I love playing for Jerod, I love playing for AVP," tight end Hunter Henry said after the game.
A to Z Sports also spoke with numerous players prior to this week's game against the Bills, and they all made one thing clear: they support Mayo fully.
