The New York Giants could land one of the most dynamic wide receiver pairings in football if circumstances break right across town. Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport recently predicted the next wave of NFL stars to request a trade, and one name stood out: New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. The connection between the two New York franchises adds an extra layer to an already compelling scenario, and the financial structure of Wilson’s recent extension makes a future deal more realistic than it might appear on the surface.

Why Wilson could soon be on the move

Davenport’s case centers on the Jets’ inability to find stability at the most important position on the field.

“The Jets are likely to struggle again this year, and it would not be a huge surprise if Wilson decides he is not interested in waiting to see whether they can finally identify a long-term answer at quarterback in 2027, given the franchise’s uneven history at the position,” Davenport wrote.

Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million contract extension with the Jets, but the structure brings an impactful detail. The deal included only $13.75 million in signing bonus, which kept the Jets’ financial flexibility intact to potentially move on from Wilson down the road.

If the Giants were to trade for Wilson ahead of the 2027 season, for instance, they would absorb $24.5 million in 2027, $27.175 million in 2028, $27.824 million in 2029, and $32.5 million in 2030. Those numbers remain reasonable relative to the top of the wide receiver market for a player of Wilson’s caliber. The Jets, meanwhile, would still benefit from a cap management perspective by moving on, plus the extra draft capital involved.

Why this pairing would be special

The Giants already have Malik Nabers, who is only 22 years old. Adding Wilson, who is 25, would give New York two of the most talented young receivers in football. Both players share a critical trait: they produced at a high level without top-tier quarterback play.

Wilson’s resume across his first three NFL seasons (2022, 2023, and 2024) includes three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving campaigns. Last season he played only seven games, finishing with 395 yards and four touchdowns. The limited action prevented him from reaching the same standard he had set in prior years. Across four NFL seasons and 58 games, Wilson has compiled 315 catches, 3,644 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns.

That production becomes even more impressive when considering the quarterbacks who threw him the ball: Zach Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco, Trevor Siemian, Tim Boyle, an aging Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook. That list represents one of the more turbulent quarterback situations in the league over a four-year stretch.

The bigger picture

If Wilson could translate that production into a more favorable scenario, perhaps with Jaxson Dart playing at a competent level for the Giants, the possibilities grow considerably. Splitting the field with a player like Nabers would create matchup problems that few defenses could solve consistently.

Whether Wilson actually requests a trade remains speculative, but the financial framework and on-field circumstances make this a scenario worth monitoring as the 2026 season unfolds.
