NFL Betting Trends & Stats for Week 2:
What began as a novice activity for fun, sports betting has since become a profession for some. Again, that is why NFL betting trends have become so important. That’s also why the number of NFL betting stats is virtually endless. However, we’ve shared some of the top NFL betting trends for Week 2 here.
Target Justin Herbert and Chargers WR Player Props
We are all in on Justin Herbert having a monster game this week in Tennessee. We already analyzed this in our Chargers vs. Titans Same Game Parlay, but the narrative and stars align for the recently-extended young QB to torch this weak secondary the Titans possess.
The Titans are excellent at stopping the run, as evidenced by their top-ranked rush defense in 2022-23. But without Austin Ekeler this week, in addition to Tennessee’s worst-ranked pass defense a year ago, which did not look good in Week 1 and has contributed to eight straight losses dating back to last year, we love taking Justin Herbert to smash Over 284.5 Passing Yards (-110 at Bet365) this week and continue the NFL betting trends going against the Titans’ secondary.
Herbert and the Chargers lost a tough home game in Week 1 to the Dolphins. Herbert only threw for 229 yards and one touchdown while Ekeler got all the shine on the ground. This week, we expect offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to cut Herbert loose and air it out all day against this vulnerable secondary. Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Quentin Johnston, Joshua Palmer, Gerald Everett and Donald Parham Jr. should all contribute to a road win in which Herbert throws close to 50 passes. Lots of attempts is an NFL betting stat we would love to see out of Herbert this week.
Justin Fields Continues to Cash Rushing Props
Despite the shake-up to the Chicago Bears’ backfield, QB Justin Fields remained the team’s leading rusher in their Week 1 home loss to the Green Bay Packers. Nine carries led Fields to 59 rushing yards, once again cashing the over on his rushing yards (54.5). In six of Fields’ last eight games, he has hit the over on this prop. This is one of our favorite NFL betting trends to keep believing in.
Say what you will about his ability to go through his progressions and read defenses, this young QB can scramble with the best of them. We expect the Bears to execute a more vertical game plan down in Tampa Bay this week, which could give Fields more room to create in the face of pressure or if his receivers are not open. With his rushing yards prop set at 60.5 (-110 at Bet365 Sportsbook) we are going to continue riding the 1,000 yard rusher to go over on this market.
Mac Jones Slowly Improving?
You wouldn’t know it by the Patriots’ end results (lost four of five dating back to last season), but Mac Jones started to turn a corner the last three weeks of last season and it looks like it may have carried over to this season. In the final three weeks of last season, Jones tossed seven touchdown passes. In Week 1 against one of the NFL’s best defenses in the Philadelphia Eagles, Jones connected with his pass-catchers in the end zone three times. His 316 passing yards were also impressive.
With Bill O’Brien serving as offensive coordinator (Jones’ OC at Alabama) he looks comfortable and ready to prove his doubters wrong this season. With four straight games of two touchdown passes or more, we love Jones to go Over 1.5 Touchdown Passes (+100 at Bet365) in what should be a high-scoring affair against the Dolphins. Jones and the Pats will have to keep up with the Dolphins’ dynamic offense, so we are confident in this play.
