John Mateer was the one asking all of the important questions at SEC Media Days instead of the other way around

This season, we will see if he can do it in the SEC, against the best talent in the country at the college level. It's not that people don't think he will be bad, it's more so that he was so good last year, that we're not sure if he will be good this year, where last year he and his team didn't really play tough talent.
John Mateer asks important question at SEC Media Days
You can say that coming to Oklahoma is going to be much different for Mateer. But why wouldn't he want that? I mean, who doesn't want to play for Oklahoma?
"There was a lot that went into it, but I know coach Buck, and it's closer to home, you could say," Mateer said on SEC Network at SEC Media Days. "You know, I wanted my family to be able to come, because they couldn't get to a lot of games in Pullman [Washington State]. But, it's also the SEC. I'm here at SEC Media Days, like who doesn't want to play in the SEC, you know? And being with Buck, staying in the same offense, and the same coaching that I know, and they know me, and what I need to play at the highest level. You know, it's Oklahoma. Who doesn't want to play for Oklahoma?"
Being the quarterback at Oklahoma is not the same as being the quarterback anywhere else. I would argue that being the QB at Oklahoma, historically, has had the most eyes on them than maybe any other program ever. And just in the last ten years or so, the Sooners have had some elite names come through and play.
There is Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield, Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, and Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, all in the league right now, all top ten quarterbacks. And, Mateer knows that he could very well be the next one up.
Being the quarterback at Oklahoma means a lot, and for him, it's a chance to show the entire world who he is and how good he is.
John Mateer excited for Oklahoma Sooners’ new look offense in 2025 ‘We’re going to throw a lot at you’
One of the reasons why there is so much optimism around the Oklahoma Sooners heading into 2025 is the new look offense led by offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, who the Sooners hired in December. Arbuckle, paired with quarterback John Mateer, led one of the most explosive offenses in college football last season at Washington State. […]
