Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers continue to prioritize winning their crucial in-state recruiting battles. LSU has signed 27 freshman from Louisiana in the last two recruiting cycles alone and they're at it again for 2026.

Seven of their nine current commits for the 2026 recruiting cycle are highly touted talents from Louisiana. Now, immediately after offering yet another in-state four star talent LSU suddenly finds themselves in the mix and a part of this young star's "top schools" list.

Hayward Howard Jr., Four Star CB Recruit

Hayward Howard Jr. is a rising a four star recruit who plays his high school football for the prestigious Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. For those unfamiliar, Edna Karr has won six state championships in football since 2012 alone. That school has become a hotbed location for top tier football talent, and Howard's emergence there has finally caught the eye of several college football programs.

Just this spring Howard has received scholarship offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, and more. Now LSU joins the fold and they're obviously in the mix to land him. When asked about the offer Howard couldn't help but express excitement saying, "Every Louisiana kid grows up looking up to the Purple and Gold."

The LSU Tigers already have a former Edna Karr star on the roster in wide receiver Aaron Anderson, who may end up being the most productive offensive weapon on the team this year. Howard's current high school teammate, four star safety Aiden Hall, is also already committed to LSU for 2026 as a Top 100 player in the country. Howard would certainly fit in right away with the Tigers and feel right at home.

Howard boasts excellent height, length, speed, and impressive physical technique for his age. His ability to quickly process and break on the ball is phenomenal. He would be a perfect potential plug and play cornerback on the perimeter if LSU can actually get him to commit.

Brian Kelly and company still need to beat out a handful of schools that just offered him this spring as well as his father's alma mater, Ole Miss but it's definitely looking possible. The Rebels might be the toughest team to beat given that Lane Kiffin and his staff were in on Howard a year prior to most big brand schools and it's where his dad played college football.

Hopefully Coach Kelly can get him in for a visit quickly to help close on what could be a surprisingly important recruit for 2026.
