Ohio State has already undergone a bit of a roster change this offseason. After finishing with a 17-15 record and missing the NCAA Tournament for a third straight time, changes had to happen for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes watched C Austin Parks, C Aaron Bradshaw, F Evan Mahaffey, and G Meechie Johnson Jr. exit in the transfer portal. Keeping Bruce Thornton John Mobley Jr., and Devin Royal around was a big win for Ohio State.
New additions for the Buckeyes so far have been G Gabe Cupps, C Christoph Tilly, and F Brandon Noel. Ohio State could still use more depth and they’re set to visit with a big target.
Ohio State hosting a real scoring threat this weekend
The Buckeyes are hosting Southern Illinois G Kennard Davis this weekend, according to Sam Keyser. Davis is a 6-foot-6 guard who averaged 16.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in 31 starts for Southern Illinois this past season.
Davis has two years of eligibility remaining after playing in 32 games as a freshman and averaging 4.2 points per game. A two-way player that would give some nice versatility to the Buckeyes. Ohio State will have to replace Micah Parrish’s 13 points a game while shooting 35 percent from deep. Davis is a very capable shooter with a 37 percent mark last season.
Other high-major programs like Texas, Missouri, USC, Rutgers, and Oklahoma have shown interest in Davis.
Davis has the potential to be the last key addition for the Buckeyes in the portal. Ohio State has addressed some needed size on the interior as well as a backup point guard. Davis would give them a player that can fill it up and defend. Getting a visit is crucial, we’ll see if it leads to a commitment.
