While several powerhouse schools like the Texas Longhorns and Nebraska Huskers are eliminating their annual spring scrimmage this year, Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs are not.
Smart confirmed that "G-Day," which kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 12, will look normal despite not being televised this year.
“It’s going to be as close to us every year we’ve ever had,“ Smart said in an interview appearance on 680 The Fan. ”It looks like we’re pretty healthy. We’ve got a couple of kids that are out. We’ve got the numbers we needed to divide into two teams. It’ll be one o’clock. The format will be very similar to what we’ve done in the past. We’re going to play a game and let the guys go compete.”
Smart is never one to disclose too much on the injury front, though we do know defensive lineman Christen Miller, offensive tackle Monroe Freeling, offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun, linebacker Isaiah Gibson, and center Drew Bobo are current key players who are battling injuries.
College football spring games are very beneficial for players, coaches, and fans. It's a good time for coaches to evaluate their players in a crowd setting and for fans to catch a glimpse at what's happening behind the scenes before the season starts.
It also means more money for the football program and the university.
Georgia will also hold their traditional gameday Dawg Walk, which is set for 11:50 AM. Admission for the scrimmage is $10, and fans can tune into Georgia Bulldog Radio Network for play-by-play action.
