The Florida Gators have been working hard on the recruiting trail and head coach Billy Napier has landed a couple of interesting commitments over the last few days.
On Monday, Napier didn't land a commit for the 2026 recruiting class, but rather a player who can help right now in former Florida State Seminoles defensive back Harold Stubs IV
Florida Gators land transfer DB Harold Stubbs IV
The Gators haven't been that active in the transfer portal compared to other schools, as they only added five players in the first window this winter. They did have a hole in the defensive backfield when safety Gregory Smith entered the transfer portal himself right before the spring game.
Stubbs is set to take Smith's spot on the roster at safety, as the Gators now have a stronger defensive backfield. What's interesting with Stubbs isn't just that he transferred from bitter rival Florida State, but more so that his younger brother safety Drake Stubbs is about to start his true freshman season with the Gators
“I’m very excited to be with my brother and play together again,” Stubbs IV said. “That’s the dream. If you can play with your brother, why not play with your brother? I’m real excited to go to Florida.”
What are the Gators getting in Stubbs? Honestly, other than a player who is the older brother of Drake and has two years of eligibility remaining, not much is known. He's only played five snaps across three seasons with the Seminoles, and just one of those was on defense in 2022.
As things sit, he will be a depth player for Ron Roberts' defense, and could compete for playing time. Right now, he will be a nice depth piece.
