The Florida Gators have been red hot when it comes to recruiting. The month of June alone has landed head coach Billy Napier a whopping 11 recruits, including the latest one in four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh.
Unfortunately, the Gators haven't won them all, as they lost out on four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland to the Texas Longhorns.
Vodney Cleveland commits to Texas
This one is a tough blow for the Gators, but also one they saw coming. Texas got the last visit of Cleveland last weekend and the Longhorns made a very good impression. It's a tough one, as the Gators were often viewed as the number one school for Cleveland, but Texas was able to seal the deal.
Now, losing a one-off recruiting battle isn't always the biggest deal in the world, but this is the first in a long line of recruiting battles between Florida and Texas.
The Gators and Longhorns are currently battling for multiple defensive lineman:
- Four-star DL Kendall Guervil
- Five-star EDGE Trenton Henderson
- Four-star EDGE KJ Ford
A win or loss can create a ripple effect in either direction. It fills a spot on the recruiting roster for the Longhorns and keeps a spot open for the Gators. Cleveland could end up convincing others to join him with the Longhorns, as that's something we've seen many times before.
The Gators are far from done when it comes to recruiting, even though losing Cleveland stings a bit.
