Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs won't be getting to carry out a family legacy after all.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, four-star linebacker Thomas Davis Jr.—the son of Georgia legend Thomas Davis Sr.—has shut down his recruitment and is fully committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

“I’m locked in, this place is special, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. I’m excited for this journey," Davis Jr. told On3. "Go Irish!"

Davis Jr., a standout from Weddington High School in North Carolina, is ranked as the No. 14 linebacker nationally and a top-175 overall prospect in the 2026 class according to both On3 and 247Sports. Davis Jr. posted impressive numbers over his sophomore and junior seasons, totaling nearly 185 tackles, including 21.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, 17 pass breakups, and three interceptions.

In addition to Georgia, Clemson, Michigan, and Ohio State are also missing out on adding Davis Jr. to their defense.

While getting turned down by Davis Jr. is a tough blow for Georgia, the Bulldogs remain firmly in the mix for five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson, the nation’s No. 1 player at the position.
