What the Oklahoma Sooners have pulled off over the summer with their recruiting class feels unprecedented for their momentum. They've rattled off several commitments in just the last month, and it seems like every week has brought a new future Sooner into the fold.
The Sooners started off this week with a bang, adding blue-chip running back DeZephen Walker out of Missouri.
Walker chose Oklahoma over schools like Kansas State, Notre Dame, and Nebraska. He is their fifth blue-chip prospect of the class, and their seventh overall commitment in the last month.
The Sooners hosted Walker on a visit this weekend, and things evidently clicked for Walker and his family, with his commitment coming early Monday afternoon.
According to the 247Sports Composite ranking, Walker is the 370th-overall prospect and 25th-ranked RB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He is the fifth-best player out of the state of Missouri.
The Sooners needed to continue building the future of their running back room. Jaydn Ott, Jovantae Barnes, and Sam Franklin graduate at the end of this upcoming season, and a player like Gavin Sawchuk could transfer out if Oklahoma turns to the young talents like Xavier Robinson, Taylor Tatum, and Tory Blaylock.
Walker is also the first running back recruit that new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle has brought into the program. Given how quickly this commitment got sorted, it seems like the two of them hit it off well, and Arbuckle was able to sell Walker on the vision for the offense.
Oklahoma is hoping to keep the momentum rolling for their 2026 recruiting class, with several other recruiting decisions on the horizon. Still, for now, this is a major win for the Sooners, who continue to steadily climb the recruiting rankings. The Sooners sit 17th in On3's industry rankings, with the opportunity to keep climbing further.

The 2026 recruiting class for the Oklahoma Sooners has been on a red hot streak this summer, bringing in six commitments over the last month with plenty more on the way. One of those who could be part of Oklahoma's class is four-star offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt, a Colorado native. Schmitt is the near-consensus top […]
